Why PowerLung Should Not Be Shared

PowerLung is for one person only

PowerLung is intended for use by one person only.

Do not share your PowerLung or use a PowerLung that has been used by another person. Replacing the mouthpiece, using a disposable mouth tube, changing the Resistance Cell Set, or cleaning the unit does not convert the main PowerLung housing into a multi-user product.

Why personal use matters

PowerLung is used by placing the mouthpiece in your mouth and breathing through the product. Moisture, saliva, and respiratory secretions can enter or contact parts of the airflow system during normal use. Using a separate mouthpiece does not replace the internal portions of the main housing.

Respiratory secretions can contain microorganisms, which is the factual basis for avoiding shared use. This page does not identify particular diseases; it focuses on avoiding unnecessary exposure.

How PowerLung works during a breath

PowerLung provides separately adjustable resistance for inhaling and exhaling. During inhalation, the pressure created by your breath opens the inhale valve. When inhalation stops, the inhale valve closes. During exhalation, the inhale valve remains closed while the separate exhale valve opens.

Although the valves control the direction of airflow and resistance during different parts of the breath, the product still contains internal airflow areas within the main housing that remain in place when removable accessories are changed.

Replacement mouthpieces

A replacement mouthpiece is intended to replace a worn, damaged, or discolored mouthpiece for the current PowerLung owner. It does not replace the main housing or its internal airflow areas. A new mouthpiece therefore does not make a previously used PowerLung suitable for another person.

Perfect “O” disposable mouth tubes

A disposable Perfect “O” mouth tube creates a separate contact surface at the mouth, but it does not replace or isolate the main PowerLung housing. When a Perfect “O” is used with PowerLung, the PowerLung unit remains for the owner’s personal use and should not be shared.

Resistance Cell Sets (RCS)

A Resistance Cell Set changes the resistance range used for training. It does not replace the main housing or make a PowerLung suitable for another person. Resistance Cell Sets should be selected and used with the existing owner’s PowerLung.

Cleaning and care

Clean your PowerLung according to the official instructions to maintain proper operation. Cleaning is an important part of caring for your own PowerLung, but the cleaning instructions should not be interpreted as a procedure for preparing the product for use by someone else.

Used and refurbished units

Do not purchase or give another person a used or refurbished PowerLung. If you cannot confirm that a unit is new and unused, do not treat a replacement mouthpiece or other accessory as a way to prepare it for a new owner.

Keep your PowerLung for your personal use. Replacement mouthpieces, Perfect “O” mouth tubes, and Resistance Cell Sets can help you maintain or adapt your own PowerLung, but they do not make sharing appropriate.
